Blueprint of Being Shutout: Nets Free Agency Plan Failing
NBA Free Agency is getting more interesting by the day. The Heat, Knicks, Bulls, and Cavaliers are the talk of the NBA for the past few days in the LeBron James sweepstakes. One team that has made no noise at all is the New Jersey Nets.
They're free agency slogan is "The Blueprint For Greatness", it looks like a lot they are trying to advertise Jay-Z for their main sell for the Nets. Jay-Z only owns under 5% of the team and he looks like he owns about 70% of it.
Mikhail Prokhorov, Jay-Z, and new head coach Avery Johnson were the first to meet LeBron James on July 1st. It looked like they gave LeBron a great pitch to come to New Jersey. They appear to be out of the picture though for him.
Also, most of the other top free agents like Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh appear to be going elsewhere other then New Jersey. They had an interview set with Amar'e Stoudemire, but he is going to New York.
Prokhorov and Jay-Z look like they will have to go after David Lee, Carlos Boozer, or Ray Allen as their big free agent signing. I thought the Nets were going to snatch Amar'e Stoudemire before Free Agency started, but I was was wrong.
According to sources close to the New Jersey Nets, they want to re-open trade talks with the Indiana Pacers for Danny Granger. That would be a nice plan B if they don't land LeBron James. They would send Devin Harris and third overall pick Derrick Favors to Indiana if this trade happened.
New Jersey still looks like they will be near the bottom of the Eastern Conference if they can't pull off a miracle and land one of the top free agents. It looks like the Nets were all hype so far this Summer to bring in a top player.
Overall, it looks like New Jersey's promotion with Jay-Z and Mikhail Prokhorov "The Blueprint For Greatness" is going to backfire badly for them.
